Yup. I remember the seventies…..Jobs came and went…And man, you really had to work to hard to get arrested for anything….

Actually, this is a much deeper cartoon, than I thought at first…..Think about it a little bit….What’s changed in our life….? Most people I know are the same, something else happened…..

I hear what Arlo is saying… I am thankful for my job, but I don’t like other people telling me I should be.

I had a boss who parroted that WSJ talking point and then wondered why people just went through the motions after that. Loyalty and appreciation go both ways.

What kind of job did he have? Every company I worked for had a big “push” in December.
Haven’t had a job in 8 years. Old IT people are hard to place.

I disagree. This strip is addressing an increasingly more serious problem, because soon Arlo and Janis won’t have a job.

In my own career, even though I have more and more experience every day, I am being paid less and less. Sometimes it impossible to get customers to pay at all. Employers are happy to replace me with 20 somethings who live in their Mom’s basement, use their Mom’s car, or even live a few blocks away so they can walk to work. These 20 somethings have little overhead, so they can be paid substantially less. Of course, they have no clue what they are doing, but that’s OK, as long as we show a profit.

Think about it. Haven’t you noticed how many things a day you run into that DO NOT WORK? And when you complain, you are treated (rudely) by cheap labor that has no clue?

Postings which prove me wrong will be accepted with an open mind.

The guy in the White House comes to mind.

These days you have to fit such narrow parameters to be interviewed much less hired it is horrible. The economy is far from fixed. The same errors are being made again and unlike the 1930’s, they aren’t being repaired and the criminals aren’t being punished.

The more jobs get sent to India, the more the survivors appreciate their pittance. You’re being manipulated, people. (and don’t forget to bash the unions on your way down.)

But on a more personal level, there are more Republican employers hiring that rude cheap labor.

Here is a list of “jobs” that “sadly, nobody is trained to fill”, according to ITT Tech:

    Forensic Accountant
    Playability Tester
    Medical Informatisist
    Energy Systems Technician
    Application Architect
    Security Architect
    Simulation Programmer
    Interface Programmer
    Sustainability Manager
    Biomedical Equipment Technician

Back in MY day (just 10 years ago) these job skills would be part of being a “Computer Programmer”, “Civil Engineer”, “Medical Technician”, and “C.P.A.” … the specialization thing is just smoke & mirrors !
