From the salmon-colored sofa that is the center of the Arlo & Janis universe, this unique and quixotic comic strip has been just about everywhere. From unvarnished human drama to flights of unfettered comic fantasy, from unabashed pathos to unsurpassed observational wit, Arlo & Janis is perhaps the most unpigenholeable comic strip ever. It also invents new words!
The characters Arlo and Janis have played the parts of mermaids, squirrels, alligators and grasshoppers over the years, all while exploring the unexaggerated human condition and managing to become, with their son Gene, perhaps the most believable family in the funny pages. This unique approach has garnered Arlo & Janis an intelligent and engaged readership and guaranteed that a percentage of it will be confused at any given moment. However, readers eagerly return every day for another quaff from what has been the holy grail for a generation of comic-strip authors: quintessential Boomer humor.

Ohhhh! Now I get it, from yesterday. I had to look really close to see the BLUE bird-poop that ended up on his jacket. WTH is wrong with the colorist of the strip? And who’s doing it?? If it had shown up WHITE like it should have, we’d’ve all seen what Mary Lou was looking at yesterday.

I always wondered what Arlo and Janis last name was.

isn’t it a sign of good luck to have a bird “drop” on you?

Huh? Isn’t his mom sitting there watching? Btw, the colorists should have made that med. blue splotch white as it is on cartoonist’s website.

Eeeek — there were at least 30 comments yesterday, explaining about the coloring mistake…
including, give or take, a couple of dozen links or suggestions to see Jimmy Johnson’s site….
I even posted a close-up image of the corrected panel with the white seagull poop.
Let’s not start all over again!!
LOL!!!
BTW…. colorists get about 10 minutes to fill in a daily strip…. generally, one not-very-well-paid hour per week per comic..
Some color several strips…. but none can quit their day jobs for the 4 or 5 hours of low pay every week.
The cartoonist seldom gets a chance to give special instructions, or, if there were some, they might get lost somewhere between the syndicate, the colorists, and the company in the middle that contracts with both…
Good colorists usually read the strip for clues….
but when the art is ambiguous and you only have 10 minutes a day…. mistakes happen.
One week Stone Soup was all about a “green sweater”…. which was never shown in green, proving the hand that wielded the virtual crayons never read the dialogue.

From tears of joy to tears of hilarity.
This is just one of the inherent risks a couple takes when they opt for a romantic beach wedding, but at least this wedding will always be memorable.
(My husband dropped my wedding ring as he went to put it on my finger, and one of his goofy friends yelled out, “Way to go, Joe!” Not exactly how I would have planned things, but in the blur of excitement and nerves, it is one moment that I recall clearly. Very Clearly! Our 34th anniversary is next month.)
So, a new era dawns with the start of a new Day family! Congratulations to us all!

@Nicole
I too wondered why his was looking skyward, adressing his mom. Then I noticed she was the one coming to his jacket’s rescue. Why he’s not looking at her, though …

don’t care what anyone says, if you ever had a sea gull dump on you you feel anything but lucky! Gene had to be the target as someone said yesterday or it would have symbolized the “soiled” bride.where did Meg and Janis come from??? in yesterdays strip it was just the minister and the couple on the deck then today more folks appear. glad this event is finally put to bed. best of luck to them they will need it.
