"When I was a boy, our fathers were a force to be reckoned with. THEY LICKED HITLER!" "They were willing to be the affable fools the movies and TV made fathers out to be.." "But with the stench of death still about them, they couldn't pull it off." "And it fell to others."
After all these years, this particular strip still brings tears to my eyes. It makes me remember my own late father, a paratrooper captured at the Battle of Anzio who spent 16 months in a German POW camp and nearly starved to death. They didn’t know PTSD back then. He came back alive (or I wouldn’t be here), but he left a part of his heart and soul on the battlefields of Europe.
