SAM’S SCHOOL for SUPERVILLAINSBayonne, NJLesson #9: Gaming the System to Your AdvantageOur case study, for all his heavy-handedness, appears to have some resources at his disposal, and has been effectively using them to quietly dry up the resources of the lone obstacle to his acquisition of the land near Middle of Nowhere, New Mexico, for his enterprise. So far, he has kept his head enough to continue to use what works for him; he is doing everything “legit” and buying out the sponsors of the Broadcast Ranch radio show, cutting off their source of income and trying to force them to sell. His impatience, however, is showing and may get the better of him before his tactics bear fruit. In addition, his “colleagues” have either failed to inform him that the kid is still among the living and is waiting the arrival of her “Daddy” – or they HAVE informed him, and he does not recognize the significance of this failure to neutralize her. Not to mention the fact that her current benefactors are a trio of tough, stubborn, “old-school” cowboys who are bringing her up to speed on the situation. This makes moot any effort for our aspiring antagonist himself to pay a call on her, “apologize” for the way his minions have treated her and try to get on her good side. (See yesterday’s lesson). He is quickly running out of options to save the situation, except for more… forceful efforts of questionable legality, which will not only bring the kid’s “Daddy” but also local authorities into the situation.
