    As a Southern gentleman, it’s good to know that our accent is not the only one that gets run into the ground!

    @WW2 Marine Veteran

    Ever see ‘enemy at the gates’? They had a marksman who could put a bullet down the scope of another marksman at over a mile.

    In the are you live, and it isn’t cosmopolitan, of course you detect no accent. The USA is huge so we have many regional dialects of American English. At one point two very divergent dialects meet, communication could be very difficult.

    I was born and raised in Texas but I have no such accent. I in fact didn’t want it but I can copy it.

    I like the 2003 story better with Warbucks overseas.

    Like Night-Gaunt49, I was born and raised – mostly – in Texas, too. Then we moved to North Carolina for four years. By the time I got to college (in Virginia), I was told, over and over, “But you don’t have an accent!” My theory is that they cancelled each other out. :)
