Alternate Alley Oop Chapter 19 “The Savage Land of Promise”(46) 7/23/2013 Tuesday

A colony has been placed on the Savage Planet that Alley Oop and Lola had been stranded on over a year ago. The Corporation, to regain the losses made by having to abandon their base on Earth 2 (the Mokele-Mbembe told all humans from Earth 1 to leave, they left except for some TexCom hardliners who stayed) so TexCom corporation and the US military have bases there. However Texcom is actually constructing a colony carving out the alien jungle as they go. Using the excess poor of the USA to man and operate most of the machinery as bit-by-bit they take the land away from the indigenous life forms.

Mr. Am, the strange man who some say is “Santa Claus” and is known to the heiress Annie Warbucks, saw the plight of the colonists and wanted to help them. So for months he has been preparing them for an exodus to a new place, better one in which to start over. Not on the “Land of Promise” planet. With the help of his friends the gentle Gom-Goo, he has had his chief engineer constructing a device that will take them there all at once. The Displacer.

At the same time the leadership of the LOP operation, CIO Walsh, Commander Til and Dr. Trask have been trying to find out what is going on. They are very close to thwarting Mr. Am. Only Alley Oop can save it as Mr. Am anticipated. (How did he do that?)

Drexler, a colonist who has dreams of working for TexCom in a higher capacity, has finally been able to signal Til’s forces to beeline right to them! Alley Oop is on his way too from a compulsion planted by the jovial Mr. Am. who knew he was coming to save them at a crucial moment. Is that time now?

So why is Doc Wonmug going? He isn’t a climatologist nor mountaineer.

What winter preparations should Doc make that will not make him stick out like an alien.

    Nope, he’s just a Time-Traveling Button Pusher. Or a Button-Pushing Time Traveler.

Note there are two identical red buttons. Nothing could go wrong with that, right? Right?

Oh, sure. Doc agrees to carry a device without knowing what it does, from a man he has not checked out, and agrees to push a button without knowing what it’s going to do. Sure. Uh-huh. You bet.

I still don’t trust John. If it meant so much to him, then why isn’t he going. He’s up to NOGOOD. He’s going to mess with Doc’s lab, and upset something. Just wait and see, Mr. NOGOOD is bad business, and Doc should just kick him to the curb.

A scientist would know what an instrument does and how.

For Doc this is just another good excuse for a road trip! The only question is will Alley be coming along?

They’re sending a Nintendo Gameboy back to 1816?
I’m with david42 – Wonmug would want to know who, what, and how of the device and his visitor, which so far he only has the guy’s word on. But of course, this is the comics – much like tv, suspension of disbelief may be required…
