The Academia Waltz was Berke Breathed's first cartoon, published daily from 1978 to 1979 in The Daily Texan at The University of Texas at Austin, where he was a student. The strip focused primarily on college life, although it sometimes made references to big news stories of the time (such as the incident at Three Mile Island in 1979).

An oil dogged, half-witted governor, yep that wold be Rick Perry. Or George W. Bush, the worst president ever. Yep looks like Breathed definitely predicted the ignorance and racism of the texas tea baggers. He did miss the Neo-Nazi description which is so apt.

The strip ran in 1978 and 1979. The Oil-soaked, half-witted war criminal was Jimmy Carter. Remember El Salvador, Nicaragua et al? I do, Jimmy Carter should be held for trial on the count of genocide. I really remember.
