The shrub could avoid starting the draft by trashing the economy. In a great economy, more jobs available means less people resorting to enlisting.

Now that we’ve seen the fallacy of an all volunteer army we need to bring back the draft so soldiers aren’t doing 5 or 6 deployments to war zones. Bring back the draft and don’t give anyone any exceptions, especially rich cowardly brats like Mitt R’money during ’Nam.

Should be like Israel. Everyone serves in the military for 2 – 3 years after high school. Then they get help with their college tuition.

You’ll probably find a lot less wasted college educations that way as well. By holding of college and doing service work (military or civil service) until you are 21 or so, I find students are more focused and mature and less likely to treat college like 13th grade.

40 years later and this cartoon still holds true. What does this say about our country?

Thank you. A cartoon from the 70s talking about the senseless tragedy of war, and a bunch of geniuses posting how we should be REQUIRING military service. If that’s not irony, I don’t know what is.

A draft hasn’t been needed as long as the hidden Great Depression keeps filling the ranks with the unemployable.
