If you are wondering why your Jewish friends are filling your social media feed with nonstop talk about Israel, it’s because 90 years ago people said nothing.
Regardless of what some of the professors are saying to the media, this is NOT about “freedom of academic expression.” That takes place in the classroom.
Nor is it First Amendment Rights. Those are limited to expressing opinions, as long as they do not endanger or adversely affect others (the classic example of yelling “fire” in a crowded theater. Or blocking a bridge, and hampering emergency vehicles from performing their vital functions.)
These students – and others, not affiliated with the schools – are creating a public nuisance and preventing the majority of students from attending classes.
This is NOT the same as a strike by a union. If the students formed picket lines and urged others to join them — then THAT’S protected First Amendment activity.
And if they were attending their political science classes instead of being uselessly disruptive, they would know that.
Wow – great political cartoon, didn’t this all start with Jesse Jackson leading rallies or protests with the slogan – “Hey hey, ho ho, Western Civ has got to go.” I have read elsewhere you can get a degree in history without ever taking one class on American History. Sad if it is true. Education is no longer chiefly about learning the art of critical thinking and developing the ability to solve problems as it seems that academic achievement is at a low point. Too many have a low reading level and the ability to do simple math is beyond the ability of many students. I understand they no longer have to learn to write in cursive and that math is racist.

According to MAGA-GOP, January 6th insurrectionists were just exercising free speech; anyone else needs to be clubbed and arrested.

What could be more American than a protest (people exercising their right to free speech)?
