Maybe if guns or religion were involved…I don’t know – somehow they’re the only things drawing human attention.

On a scale of 1 to 10, coral reef depletion might rank an 8 or 8.5 in most people’s minds.

Humans had potential but were not quite bright enough to save their environment from extinction.

Please send your notes of thanks to the U. S. Military, in care of the Pentagon, for their geoengineering efforts brought to you since 1947!

I’ve just returned from over a week of scuba diving in Moorea, an island right next to Tahiti. The once beautiful coral reefs were mostly dead — black and lifeless, with many coral heads that were bleached white. The apologetic diving staff explained that the hotter sea water was mostly responsible, as well as the proliferation of big, ugly crown-of-thorn starfishes that ate the coral (and seem to enjoy the hotter water). Their only natural enemies, predator triton snails, had mostly been eradicated by overfishing. The water was no longer clear and blue, but often murky. A sad situation — and NO HOAX.
