By Jeffrey Caulfield and Brian Ponshock | 1.2K FollowersAbout Yaffle
"Yaffle" is a local or dialect English name for the green woodpecker, a fascinating bird possessing an incredibly unique laugh. Since creators Jeffrey Caulfield and Brian Ponshock are often found perched in trees creating their offbeat panels, they thought what better name to use for their strip than one of this wonderful giggling bird! Watch for their little friend secretly hidden in every panel.

Meet Jeffrey Caulfield and Brian Ponshock
“Yaffle” is a combination of Jeffrey Caulfield’s humor and Brian Ponshock’s artwork.
In 1971, Brian Ponshock sprouted from the potato fields of Antigo, Wisconsin. The youngest spud of nine, he distinguished himself from his siblings by showing his love of drawing at an early age. Ponshock studied architectural and residential design at Northcentral Technical College in Wisconsin.
Ponshock is the creator of the cartoon panel “Mindframe,” winner of the Twain Award for Best Single Panel Cartoon of 2014–2015, and is co-creator of “Prideland” along with Ryan Stoker. Most recently, he created “Yaffle” with Caulfield. Ponshock is a mechanical designer by day and super cartoonist by night. He resides in his hometown with his husband, Ron, and their three dogs.
Jeffrey Caulfield is one of those rare birds born in B.C. (before cell phones, computers, and Costco). He received the “President’s Prize” for screenwriting while majoring in fine arts at York University. Over the years, Caulfield has written, produced, and edited for radio, feature films/documentaries, plays, short stories, and songs. A few years ago, cartoonist was added into the mix.
Caulfield partnered with Alexandre Rouillard to create the syndicated strip “Mustard and Boloney,” which still runs on GoComics. More recently, Caulfield teamed up with Ponshock on “Yaffle.” Caulfield lives in Belleville, Canada, with his wife, Terry, and their cat, Subira.
