    … and the old people were complaining how they didn’t have any of those newfangled movies, candy was a penny, they’d already had a job since the age of four, people dressed right, music was music, and you should all be so lucky.

    . . . and the flag had 48 stars and STOP signs were yellow and pay phones required a nickel and cars had no seat belts and all airplanes had propellers and England had a king and nobody had ever climbed Mt. Everest and I read my comics in newspapers.

    And people still hated each other because of their race or nationality, they used drugs, politicians lied through their teeth, crime was a problem, women and children were abused, and there was war in the Middle East and Asia.

    I remember being in awe when my grandma told me that when she was a kid, you could get a (bigger) Hershey bar for a nickel. then she explained how hard it was to get the nickel.
