Wow, a non-compete clause in a severance settlement? That sounds like something that could/should be challenged in court. I can see a non-disclosure as part of a severance. There’s a lot of inside information and trade secrets the company doesn’t want their competitors to know. But if a company is going to tell an employee they’re getting rid of that said employee can’t work in the field they’re trained in, the company should be required to pay for that employee’s education in a new field in addition to adequate severance to last through the education duration.
