War is a force that gives us approval ratings. Traditional political scandals occur when a politician gets caught in past wrongdoing. (Bill Clinton: That woman is a ho! A trollop! Not that I know from personal experience.) To avoid this trap, Bush lies about his crimes before he commits them. (George Bush: Lookey here- Saddam is opening the gate to hell in Tikrit.) (Voice: That's a still from a 1980s horror movie.) Later, Bush's enemies proclaim themselves vindicated. (Woman: Experts have been combing Iraq for ages... still no passage to Hades! Just like we said!) (Man: Want a medal?) The scandal has run its course- so a new one can get started!)
