Proverbs Chapter 6, verses 16-19: “There are six things that the Lord strongly dislikes, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.“

I guess for some, it’s a to-do list, for others, a Bible passage to be ignored.

Explains why Trump published his list of possible nominees, including totally unqualified people, a couple of weeks ago. He knew she was in hospice and just want to stick it to her.

Cruelty for the sake of cruelty

A case in point proving that we judge others by what’s going on inside our own heads.

He finds it easy to believe others will lie since he has no compunction about doing so. Not the mark of a great leader.

This is a good place to recommend reading “The Grand Inquisitor” chapter from Dostoevsky’s little book, “The Brothers Karamazov”.

Cliff Notes version: You (Christ, in the original version) said that men and women are free and You gave freedom to them. But they can’t handle their freedom because they are too weak, even weaker than You knew, and by their freedom they seek to destroy themselves. Therefore, they will gratefully give their freedom to an Autocrat. Why? Because their burden is too heavy, and what they crave is not freedom. What they crave is Magic, Miracle, and, above all, Authority! These things We, the Autocrats, can supply to them in abundance. Thus it is that We have perfected your (that is, the Founding Fathers now) work! Go, then men and women, and be happy. For We have lifted the crushing burden of your freedom from your shoulders and taken it upon Ourselves!

The Republican coup d’etat has begun

Donald Trump and the Republicans are not trying to persuade a majority of the electorate to take their side in accordance with American custom, principle and law. They are instead trying to take power by force, using American institutions—the Electoral College in particular—to smash the republic itself in order to remake it in their authoritarian image. This is a time to understand that every accusation is a confession of what they have already done, that every allegation is a projection of what they are prepared to do. This morning, when Ohio representative Jim Jordan said Joe Biden and the Democrats are trying to steal the election, what he was really saying was the GOP is trying to steal the election.

Trump claimed that RBG’s statement was made by Pelosi or Schumer or “Shifty Schiff”; it would have been less horrible if he had used what Carlson has in the cartoon.
