Now, wait a minute. If you just learn a single trick Scout, you’ll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view.

    Sir?

Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.

But if they keep voting, we can’t ever be Republicans anymore.

Scout? Do you know what a compromise is?

    Bending the law?

Uh… No. It’s an agreement reached by mutual consent. Here is the way it works. You concede the necessity of minority citizens voting and we’ll keep right on being America, just as we always have. Is that a bargain?

Let’s be honest. Most of us white people hoped Obama’s election was a sign that racism was mostly over because we’ve not witnessed or experienced the systemic racism that still exists. Our own white privilege gave us that false hope.

We Democrats will flush those who have impersonated being a Democrat. What will you Republicans do about Trump and his minions in congress?

It does seem to me that it’s getting better. The holdouts are noisier because they’re desperate. And they even managed to elect one of what they thought was their own, to everyone’s horror, but that too is a sign of desperation, imo. Even 30 years ago, this whole thing would have been of only local import, and it would have sunk from sight without much ado.

Wouldn’t it be better to use the example of voter suppression and police profiling to show how far we haven’t come instead of an anonymous picture from before Obama started law school?

Has nothing to do with Virginia today, and your actual top racist is DT.

There is no way to defend what has happened in Virginia’s politics. What this has to do with President Obama’s election, I don’t understand. I didn’t vote for a man of color. I voted for a man of substance and character. I voted for Doug Wilder for governor way back when. He is a man of color, but that is not why he was elected. If our Black community wants to pardon his past mistake, I think that would be a good thing.

If we reject every white person who has shown prejudicial behavior from public service, Virginia will not be the only state looking for new leadership. If I had known Governor Northam had this in his past, I still would have voted for him, everything else being the same. It would have been far worse to have elected a Trump sycophant. When we vote we should be making an educated, calculated decision.

I have seen, read and heard the right-wing warning about socialism sneaking up on us. So do Fascist and dictators.
