Holly taking notes ? OK this really is a dream
PS I miss the dailies and I’ll miss Stone Soup when it’s gone
I’ll miss you so much!
Jan Eliot is sharing a secret about writers. Our characters live beyond our written stories and stay around like old and very dear friends.
Can’t wait to know what Joan and Wally’ll be up to
Stone Soup always had some realistic stories that aren’t so good/happy – just once it would be interesting to see a strip like this admit that in the future something goes horribly wrong for a character. Not that I want to see sadness and suffering, but it would be intriguing to see how it would be play out if a lead character was fated for a bad outcome.
Thanks for letting us know what becomes of these characters we have come to love over the years. Jan, you have created a wonderful strip. Thank you for sharing it with us. Sad to see you go but I do wish you the retirement of your dreams.
Holly is taking notes ! Will she draw the next 50 years of “Stone Soup” ?
And they all lived happily ever after…
Oh Jan, if only you could give us one last “You gotta love August!”…..this family will be well-missed.
What a lovely way to end this strip. Sorry to see it go but all good things come to an end but you do it so nice. Thanks for all the fun reads.
I couldn’t have picked a better way to end the strip
And not one of them will be a cartoonist—?
I like the long good-bye rather than just abruptly ending things. Best of luck in future endeavors Jan.
I’ve never seen a strip end like this. How original. How Jan Eliot.
I’ll miss it.
Thank you, Jan Eliot, for doing Stone Soup and bringing smiles to Our faces for so long. While I will miss these characters, at least you are giving us a wonderful goodbye and allowing us the illusion that they will Live on without the strip. Also, thank you for not turning it over to another cartoonist. Enjoy every day of your future!
For a month now, you’ve been reminding us why we’re going to miss you so much, Ms Eliot!
And just who is Arnold?
Then take us down those roads Jan . . take a break for a year and come back with the girls in college . . disappointed to see this strip end.
Oh dear God, too much syrup. I think I’m going into diabetic shock!!
Watch the finale of Six Feet Under.
Is Holly taking notes in order to take over the strip?
Lucy grows up to be a cartoonist.
Missing the strip already
Bravo, Ms Eliot. I love closure. Happy future adventures in your retirement.
Ms. Eliot, we knew Alix had special connection with sea life, that is benefit of marine biologist, for Holly I thought be more clothing line. Bless you Ms. Eliot for Stone family future. I as others really love this strip.
Would’ve been nice to have one more “Ya Gotta Love August” strip. A nice little farewell montage.
I do love this breaking the 4th wall, though. Thank you.
This final arc, wherein Jan says the characters live on, makes me think of the “one episode continuation” (didn’t want to call it a reunion) of the Dick Van Dyke show, from about 2005. Here’s Rob and Laura still “existing” after 35 or 40 years (along with many of the other characters, including Alan Brady, played by Carl Reiner). It made me think that in all those years since 1968 (or whenever the show went off the air) that the much loved characters continued to “exist” in real time (somewhere, fictionally), but we just hadn’t seen them during that time! I don’t know, I guess I found it kind of nice and refreshing to think that.
I am so going to miss this strip. I was disappointed when it went to Sundays only. ToT
I wish this strip wouldn’t end. It’s one of my favorites.
sniff I hate endings. :-(
It’s gonna be so … weird … not seeing new “Stone Soup” comics. [sniff] However, we still have some time, along with reruns/classics—and I, too, appreciate the build-up to the finale, instead of a sudden bomb drop.
Thanks, Jan. Much appreciated.
I am really enjoying the closure that Jan is providing. I am sure that this is a difficult choice for her to make as well. I definitely can see Alex being a marine biologist, but did not see architect for Holly. I figured she would be an event planner or fashion critic. Can’t wait to see what is in store for Joan and Wally.
Miss you all :)
Going to miss “Got to love August”.
