This reminds me of a girl who used to sit next to me in 7th Grade Music Class. She must have smuggled her mini-skirt past her parents in her pocketbook—or maybe her coin purse.
The summer after 5th grade I went to day camp. All the other girls wore their sneakers without socks. Mom would not let me do that. (When she was a girl Pres Hoover’s son did so, played tennis, got something on his foot, it got infected, and he died – so mom had to wear socks and so did we.) I would take the socks off on the bus to camp and put them back on, on the way home – until my kid sister started going to the camp also and would tell on me.
