Facebook is getting more annoying every day with their various options to run your life.
Much to do about nothing…data is just data.
I’m going on vacation, I will be gone for the month my address is…………
What I find particularly annoying are the small businesses that require you to use FB to see their catalog/menu.
To paraphrase Benjamin Franklin, those preferring “convenience” over “privacy” will have neither.
Facebook (like most websites) is free to use. It is also a business with all sorts of costs, and a desire for profits (just like any other business)
If you are getting a “free” service from a business, then you are a fool not to expect them to be profiting off you somehow. I don’t even know why we think Facebook is a “bad guy” for doing this… it is a completely normal and rational thing to do in a capitalist economy.
As long as Facebook isn’t breaking any actual privacy laws, the only people that are a problem are the ones that use Facebook and share their private information without realizing that it will be sold.
What I hate more then anything is the latest avalanche of ‘sponsored’ links that are filling my ‘news-feed’. People I communicate with now just send things direct because I never see them… it’s ALL advertisements you can’t get rid of no matter how many times you try
“for” + “in” [oddly differently lettered words] = “foreign”?
“The economics of the future is somewhat different. You see, money doesn’t exist in the 24th century… The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in our lives. We work to better ourselves and the rest of Humanity.”
(Star Trek: First Contact)
I was on FB for a couple weeks, then I realized I really didn’t care to know when people were going shopping.
You are not the consumer of Facebook (and other social media), you are the product being sold.
I do not have a Facebook account, and adamantly refuse to get one regardless of the advantages – because the drawbacks outweigh them.
