Get the government off our backs? Oh, that’s only for corporations who want to oppress workers, consumers and our shared environment. Women‘s choices about their own bodies?
Oh, let’s have Big Intrusive Government (BIG) deny any personal LIBERTY or FREEDOM and tell you what to do with your own body.
Conservatives want to get government “off the backs” of corporations and the Wall $treet Bank$ters who collapsed our economy, but they want the government to dictate private relationships (dictate who you can or can’t marry), private medical choices (reproductive choices, medical marijuana, end of life choices, stem cell therapies) and try to force religion (private) into the public square or subsidize it with special tax giveaways (socialized religion). And they want OTHER PEOPLE TO PAY FOR IT — they expect corporate welfare and tax giveaways for the rich (who can pay a lower tax on gains from investments or unearned inheritances and take advantage of tax shelters, loopholes and exemptions designed by their lobbyists) so the few richest elites who have the most pay a lower tax rate than what working people pay on EARNED income.
Superb cartoon. Should be required reading on Capitol Hill.
If men got pregnant instead of women, abortion would probably be free.
Empathy has never been one of the GOP’s strong points.
If men got pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament!
A gavel that would finally make men grovel*. (*And The TM is a male.)
Signe has outdone it again! Pure Genius!
@Ms. WILKINSON, bravo bravo bravo!!!!!!!!
Get a bigger mallet.
This is next… Don’t think they won’t come after white men they disagree with when they have finished with brown people and women.
Viagra was always covered by insurance while birth control was not. Viagra and oral contraceptives have other medical purposes but no one ever said people should have to explain their Viagra need (heart, circulation) to employers like many were trying to do for coverage for the pill for cysts, acne, etc. Birth control is the best prevention for abortions; won’t eliminate need as there are other factors.
What’s really appalling is the hypocrisy. Hobby Lobby claims a religious belief against abortion while buying most of their goods from China that MANDATED abortion and they invested in companies that processed fetal tissue from abortions.
Well put, Ms. Wilkinson!
I think the baby would rather see the man with the mallet than the monster with the scissors.
charlie puts forth the false scare tactics of “baby” and “monster with the scissors”. Most abortions are done by 12 weeks and late-term abortions are done for specific medical reasons ONLY – life / health of mother, fetal abnormalities.
Take a look at the replies to charlie’s statement above. Good governments support their society, but charlie wants this replaced by a requirement to belong to a church.
Signe, you nailed it!
@charliecsi: Perhaps a bit of historical perspective on this. The idyllic paradise you describe, where the churches handled all of the social needs, did exist for a long time. But with the depression, churches were struggling simply to keep the doors open. The social welfare programs they had offered before vanished from most churches. This is when people turned to the state for relief. The only problem is that most churches never resumed their social welfare programs and continued to let the State do this work instead. It is admirable that your community still does the work of the Gospel.
You complain about “robbing the taxpayer.” How about robbing the insurance premium payer? You say that aborting a marginally viable fetus makes me a monster. What about those who bring such a child into the world and then the parents, insurance companies, and yes, society, pays millions of dollars keeping this non-productive life alive? Are not all of us robbed by this? Some of these appear to have little awareness of anything around them. Is this truly a life or merely an existence?
