There are a number of serious problems with the Lobbying system. However, I do not think banning it is the solution. We are asking our representitives to pass legislation on a vast array of complex issues. The cannot be experts in all these fields. Where are they going to get the information they need to make informed decisions? Their staff, of course, are responsible for gathering pertinent information but that still leads to the question as to where they get. Any expert in the field is going to have an ax to grind. Whether that viewpoint is going to be buisiness, environmental, or other will vary but it will never be impartial. Lobbying groups do serve a valid purpose. The question lies in how to regulate them to limit special interest damage. Again, people’s definition of damage will vary depending on their POV.
