There is no way that Donald Trump has enough self-control to be able to stop himself from threatening witnesses, trying to poison the jury pool or incite violence against potential witnesses or jurors.
Trump followers are already threatening Fulton County, Georgia, grand jurors who indicted Trump and the eighteen co-conspirators in what the district attorney described as a “criminal enterprise,” and one woman from Texas has already been arrested for making specific threats against U.S. Federal Judge Tanya Chutkan in the January 6 federal case in D.C.
AFTER Fulton County D.A. Fani Willis subpoenaed the former Georgia Lt. Governor (who is no longer in office), Trump sent a social media post demanding that he refuse to testify while also unloading a torrent of disparaging remarks. Demanding that a subpoenaed witness refuse to testify? This is a direct attempt to influence a witness! Witness tampering!
Georgia state law requires that criminal defendants, as a condition for being free on bail (or own recognizance) pending trial demonstrate that they will not influence potential witnesses. Trump cannot demonstrate this. In fact, he has already demonstrated the opposite.
There is only one legal remedy and, if we are to believe that no one is above the law, it must be applied: Donald Trump must be detained in custody pending trial. LOCK HIM UP!
