What I don’t understand about Republicans is how many times the party of small government, that wants to reduce government costs, adopts policies that have the opposite result.
In the case of capital punishment, because of the mandated appeals process, the cost of execution is greater than the cost of life imprisonment without parole. Throw in the fact that life without parole also guarantees will we not execute another man who was later found to be not guilty (and pay out millions in damages) and I don’t see a down side anywhere.
