Yours let you sleep until 0600? I start getting the paw to the face at about 0430.

UK just changed theirs on Sunday. Presumably different countries do it on different dates.

Again, they aren’t paid. And they are often not really “off”. During the summer there are continuing education classes, professional development, planning meetings, curriculum writing, etc.. Many teachers have to pay back student loans (if you agree to work in certain areas those loans may be forgiven after 5 years). Many districts start in August and end in June, so where are those 60+ days you’re touting coming from? Teachers also start back before the kids come back to school — my former district had us in a week before and staying about a week after. We also left later for and came back sooner from Christmas break. At the high school and middle school levels coaches and some organizations are still meeting with students. That would be extracurricular activities like sports, band, orchestra, folklorico, cheer, drama and so forth, but there are also teachers teaching summer school or retesting classes for those students who didn’t pass whichever standardized test their state gives for the NCLB requirements. Also, we tend to talk about elementary school teachers, who usually have just a core classroom of 24ish kids, but by high school and junior high/middle school those teachers can be serving over 100 kids/day. That’s a lot of planning and grading.

Depends on where you live and when you started in Education. Newer teachers have to renew their licenses every 5 years in Texas. They need to pay for the exam, the renewal cost and any continuing education classes they may need to maintain their certificate. Because funding is often too low or is cut, teachers often pay for supplies and incentives from their own pockets.

Not quite. You do actually have to do some things with/to your tamagotchi within a time frame, while a pet rock will quietly wait for you to have time to interact with it. Also, parents are less likely to randomly toss out an electronic toy than an apparently random rock.

My thoughts are with you both. This is going to be stressful for both of you so be sure you take time to do self-care in among caring for your husband and your animals.
