Many Christmases ago someone showed up with a bottle of mezcal, and after it was mentioned that the worm is hallucinogenic my brother and husband began arguing about who got to eat the worm. Eventually they split it, and then were indignant when nobody would kiss them. I think the mezcal worked well, the worm not so much, except as kiss repellent.
