Attendance would likely start out great, then taper off during the season due to the “false advertising”.

You get it. I have heard rumors of some Californians thinking about splitting off a portion of the state and forming their own state. Imagine nearly 48%-49% of the country’s vote not counting when it comes to every POTUS election. Secession and a possible second civil war are not out of the possibility. The status quo is not perfect, but it keeps the POTUS elections competitive.

And if it were left to the high population centers to select the POTUS, then GOP votes throughout the country, not just in CA, NY, etc. would be worthless. At least limiting the single party rule to the states, keeps the POTUS selection more competitive, which is what we need. Both sides have good ideas and both sides have bad ideas, by keeping the presidency in flux and switching back and forth, in the end the result should be more centrist, especially when a president of one party needs to work with a Congress dominated by the other. Allowing the population centers to dominate the POTUS elections will result in a second civil war, at worst, a breaking up of the country at best. Resentment will build up over having no say in the selection of the POTUS, and those states with lower populations will secede and form their own central government.

Notice he said that they have a lot of problems during the day. I guess he works the night shift and there’s a lot less problems because Brewster’s sleeping.

Yes and no. Only the popular vote in the state, and even then, there are some states that split their EC electors based on the popular vote in the voting districts. The country-wide popular vote can and has been different than the results of the EC.

This was done to prevent a concentration of power in selecting the POTUS to certain high population centers, which it has done remarkably well. The EC keeps the POTUS competitive and not single party rule which would happen if it were strictly the popular vote throughout the country.
