   @ Gina Carson I agree with you! There were fires, floods and other issues in the past and also will be in the future. It is so blind to think that weather never changes.

   You are missing the point. Walt was not singling out any fraction of us as our enemy, he was pointing the finger at ALL of us.

   We, all of us together, are our own worst enemies.

   ‘Divide and conquer’ is an ancient dictum, and is being used ruthlessly today, as always, to conquer us for the benefit of those of us who believe we are mostly too stupid to realize how we are being manipulated.

   I have heard a member of a certain group explain that non-members are just smart animals. He was quickly silenced by other members of his group, not because they disagreed, but because they thought the smart animals might notice what he said, and become difficult.

   For the record, I think we are ALL members of homosapiens, as indicated by the anthopologists who claim that all human groups appear able to produce live fertile offspring with other human groups. Those who might think there is a ‘gene for genius’ that only occurs in their group, making everyone else just smart animals, are simply another r.a.c.i.s.t group.

   For those of us who have been around a while, the ‘debt threat’ has been with us for at least the last half century of Congress-watching. It is standard practice to use the power of the purse to rein in what the opposing party views as excessive or inappropriate spending. I remember it going on when I was military- we were told that if it were not resolved, we would not get paid.

   It was always resolved. These incidents are mostly theater to get public attention for the spending excesses of public monies by whichever party is in power at the moment. Anyone rating US spending practices either knows this, or is incompetent, or has motives they are not mentioning.
