The reason Wisconsin does not have the Upper Peninsula has to do with the Toledo War (1835). Michigan and Ohio had a dispute over a thin strip of land that contained Toledo. The issue was eventually resolved with a land swap. Ohio got Toledo, and Michigan got the U.P. As to which got the better deal, I’ll leave it for you to decide. Wisconsin did not even have a say in the matter as it did not become a State until 1848. As a Wisconsinite, I can truthfully say that we do not hurl wheels of cheese at Yoopers - at least not most of the time. ;) The Yoopers are Packer fans, and that’s good enough for us.
