In a zero-g environment, you’d still have to exert force to raise the barbell and the force F required would be proportional to the mass M. So I guess the vertical acceleration A of the barbell would be given by A = (F – g) / M. And, in a zero-g environment, if you let it go it would keep going.
Question for the physicists out there: since it’s “Force = Mass x Acceleration” and not “Force = Weight x Acceleration”, does that not mean that if you were in a low-gravity environment like the Moon bench-pressing would be just as hard because the “weights” would still have the same mass?
