    Also – anywhere that requires people to regularly change their passwords is about a decade out of touch with best practice in information security. It’s a daft policy that makes computers less secure.

    Just a warning to anyone who uses a single word or proper noun (e.g. famous person, place name) for their password – that is likely very insecure. Adding a number or replacing a letter with a number doesn’t help. The longer and more random a password is the better, but of course that makes it harder to remember them. Writing down passwords is not great, but if hidden at home may be more secure than storing in an electronic file (burglars are not looking for passwords, hackers are). The best solution, allowing for long complex passwords that are remembered securely, is to use a password manager like BitWarden.
