The lion’s face in the first strip shows the detail that FoXo puts into the strip. The first panel shows the anger the lion has. In the second one, one knows the lion is hungry and is laser focused on his next meal. The third one, the lion’s expression changes in the three images going from I am going to eat someone, around 11 o’clock position, to a concern look, at 6 o’clock, to a panicked look, at the 1 o’clock position. In panel four he is in full panic. It is also interesting that Bozo does not look like he is chasing the lion rather that he is still running away, but because his eyes are closed, he does not realize that he is behind the lion. Unfortunately, in today’s comic pages, details like this would be lost since newspapers keep shrinking the comics.
It probably still would kill. In 1947 they were probably still using arsenate as an anti-corrosion additive. I believe arsenate was removed in the 1950’s.
CKLW is out of Windsor, in Canada across the river from Detroit. You would get different artist because the Canadian stations had to play a certain percentage of Canadian artist. It generally worked unless a Canadian artist became popular in the States. Then you would get overload on a particular artist, Anne Murray, for example.
All three are good, but I like the first one the most. First read through I the gag was he caught Fuzzy, but on second read through I noticed how Fuzzy got into the water which made the gag better since the foreground and background make a complete story. Don’t see that type of set up and detail in other comics.
Thank you Mreardon53 for the insight into Bozo, and Night-Gaunt49[Bozo is Boffo] for the link. An example of the detail, and set up of the gag, is in the first comic. The first two panels the large man looks to be in some discomfort, but the reason for the discomfort is not found out until the fourth panel. This strip sometimes has to be read multiple times to realize all of the elements of the set up, and one can see the joke from different angles.
