   But the Houston Chronicle doesn’t run BCN on Fridays. The Friday format doesn’t have as much space and so they run one less comic than other weekdays. I have complained numerous times, but I’ve been told that BNC was chosen because it doesn’t have continuing storylines. Clearly the person in answering my comment doesn’t read the comic section.

   I’ve got COVID this year for Christmas. I’m almost over it, but had to uninvite my guests. Not only did I make a mess of my holiday plans, but I affected other people as well. Now I feel bad for me and guilty about the 4 people who were suppose to come here for Christmas. One is a semi-invalid 80 year old who will now be spending Christmas and her birthday (Christmas Eve) alone. I’m planning a do-over on New Year’s Day. It won’t be the same, but it’s better than nothing.

   I’ve never seen our current cats jump on the kitchen counters. I attribute this to lack of interest because they don’t like people food and most importantly we use the counter for medical treatments – like pills. I think it works as aversion therapy. My father always considered keeping cats off the table and counters a fool’s game – they will just get up there when you leave or sleep.

   We had a cat who loved KFC chicken. He would start to howl the minute it came in the door. We would order an extra chicken leg just for him (taking it off the bone for him of course). We’ve never had a cat who cared about fish.

   I had a cat who loved melted ice cream, but not cream. If I didn’t have any ice cream, I gave him cream with a little sugar which he liked better than plain cream, so I have my doubts about the no sweetness receptors.

   Our cat Tumi has started sitting in a flower bed for hours staring at the neighbors through a crack in the fence. We now call her Gladys Catvitz.

   The cost of college is truly ridiculous these days. I’m an old person and when I graduated in 1978, it took 97 hours of minimum wage employment to pay for a semester at my state university. For my niece, who graduated in 2019, her tuition for one semester was the equivalent of 819 hours at minimum wage. This points out two things – college tuition has increased way beyond the inflation rate and minimum wage hasn’t increased nearly enough. In 1978, it was possible to work a minimum wage job in the summer and save enough for two semesters. If you lived at home or with a relative, college was affordable – so, so different than today.

    Clearly what’s needed is a tenant for the other apartment with two cats named Iggy and Ora Zella.
