His braces are not off yet. I goofed.
I avoided the use of the word,” Zamboni”out of respect for my departed friend and mentor Charles “ Sparky” Schulz. He found the word “ Zamboni” so funny, he often punctuated his gag frames with it.
Wow! I’m honored! Truly a touching tribute. Usually, a cartoonist has to die to receive such praise! Seriously, thank you for appreciating my work!
Charlene is completely made-up. All these characters are fictional. Even “ Joe” is nothing like me. I have more in common with “ Vic Van Streck.
Haha! Thanks so much! The National Cartoonists Society had our annual convention in Huntington Beach in 2019. I really enjoyed your town!
Thanks everybody. My true hope is that you will organize amongst yourselves and create a rabid “ Robb Armstrong/JumpStart Fan Club.
Clarence is an orthodontist. Charlene is actually an artist. Quite successful, too. Famous for her high-end pottery sold in ritzy boutiques and shown in art galleries. Her dad, Walter, made his fortune with the very first “ Jiffy Lube” type auto quick stop operation. She was raised around cars, and built her first engine as a grade-school science project. The reason she never charges money to fix the family’s cars is that she has fun with cars. Her art is her passion. It is Clarence’s idea to introduce her to photography as a new potential artistic interest.
Yes. It was necessary for the purposes of cadence, timing, and dedication to character trait execution.
Oh! I should mention that all of the people I mentioned above were super excited to make a JumpStart cameo. Some of them arranged to meet me in person, which is always nice. That happened because their name-drops were funny and undeniably positive. Today’s drop was wrapped around one of the seven deadly sins, so a call from Outlaw ran a certain…risk.
