   Hello, Ray! I thought I had asked you about that a few years ago, and I understood, obviously in error, that you were unrelated to Sidney Toler. It’s wonderful to note that you indeed ARE related to him! To see the meaning of the “moniker,” please take a look at charliechan.info. I’d love to hear more of your family connection to Mr. Toler! I did have a brief Internet connection to another member of the Toler family some years ago via an eBay purchase of a Charlie Chan movie still!

    Those saucer images evidently show artists’ conceptions of Smith’s time probe on some of its visits to the past. Each time it’s sent back, the present is going to be changed in some way! This would include what might be a centuries -old painted image. Before the probe visited that era, the image didn’t exist.

    Let’s say he sends it back to the moment of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. Before this time probe mission there are photographs of Lincoln at this historic event as we know them from history books. However, after the mission, the images show a blur in the background that would be the saucer. The past has been altered, and the books that show the saucer in the background were in the books that Smith and all of us read in school. He and everyone else in our time would not be aware of any change to our time continuum!

    Smith would not be sending the probe back in order to fulfill what has already happened. The things that have happened are a result of his having sent his probe back in time. If a time probe were sent back, at the request of Tracy, to a moment of a crime, the probe’s presence could very possibly have a direct influence on what transpired during the commission of that crime in our past. What if the person who was about to shoot their victim was distracted by the saucer hovering near them? The intended victim, as a result, was unscathed, and there was no crime. Our past was changed as a result, and, in our time, Tracy never asked Smith to send his device to the past.

    Briefly, the unintended consequences of time travel would be huge! Best for Diet Smith to scrap his infernal machine!
