    I have lived in the South (Texas) my entire life, and my family is all Southern. It has always been fun to see people’s reaction when I tell them my great-great Grandfather from Northern Alabama was a sergeant in the First Alabama Cavalry (US). Most have never heard of that, but lots of Alabamans were not in favor of secession.

    The US adopted the metric system in 1866. It is still the law in the US. See 15 U.S. Code Sec. 204

    Actually, the US adopted the metric system in 1869. It just isn’t used in most areas. All our liquor is sold in metric amounts, soft drinks come in 1 and 2 liter bottles, and nearly everything shows the metric equivalent (eg. 1 lb., 454 g.).
