    Interestingly, masks were widely used in the early part of the 1918 pandemic (resistance to masks did build up over time). Unfortunately, they were almost entirely ineffective against the “Spanish” (wholly misleading name) flu. Big reasons were 1) poor quality homemade masks using too few layers and too loose gauze and 2) improper use including not covering both mouth and nose, only wearing outdoors but not public indoor places, and cutting holes in them to facilitate cigarette and cigar smoking. You would think a century later we could do better but a lot of people feel their personal freedom trumps (pun not intended but what the heck) the general welfare of society.

    I get the idea Mr Benson is trying to make but his cartoon contains a huge fallacy. It implies that Trump’s lying will reach a peak and then begin to decrease. Nothing I’ve seen in the past four years would seem to support that wishful idea.
