When my friend asked how I planned to handle 12 year old daughter wanting to shave her legs, I said she already shaves. She then asked for tips on how I taught her. Said I didn’t, she just started when she saw her brother had shaved his legs. They were quite pleased with themselves. I’ll never forget the look of shock on her face, when I told her. Both my kiddos were bike racers, and shaved legs are what they do.

Same problem but door to door. After several monthly visits from cable company we invited them in so show us how tv reception would improve. Showed them a blank wall and blathered on and on about how disappointing tv was. We had never even had tv in the house. Never got another visit from them. Now, if I could get rid of the auto warranty calls. . .

I had mine convinced the ice cream truck was just the music truck, until their visiting uncle heard it. Took all 5 cousins (aged 2-5) out for a treat. Kinda did the same for Halloween, that was just the night every kid comes to show us their costume and get a treat.

For at least 40 years, my purse has been a few cards and a bit of cash held together by a half inch slice of a mountain bike tube. Fits in any pocket (I only have clothes with pockets.)

We had no TV so got a $5 used one for Watergate hearings. Left it behind when we joined the Peace Corps. Did not get another until 2010. Poor sales person trying to explain the workings of the new TV to us was hilarious. He could not believe we had no experience with this appliance.

When my son turned 16 we gave him the ‘81 Datsun we’d inherited a few years earlier from grandpa. Served him well all the way through college graduation in ‘04. He said it guaranteed any one he dated saw him for his real self and not through the lens of his “stuff.”

My comment to a paracyclist, using a handcycle, on completing the CAF ride from San Francisco to San Diego, “Congratulations! That is such a beautiful ride.” His response,“Yep. I had a perfect view of guard rails and hubcaps.”
