Yes, when there is an imbalance between buyers and sellers the price per share changes, but the schools are unlikely to hold a significant percentage of the outstanding shares and thus selling their shares will have a small effect and that effect won’t be long lasting. The price per share will soon be based on the profitability of the company. As long as the weapons manufacturers still have willing buyers, their stocks will be sought after. I’d love for their stocks to become worthless, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
If you sell stocks that you own, it has no effect on the financials of the company. They neither lose nor gain a penny. And, to divest, you have to find a buyer, so, no harm to the company.
