“MAYBE we’ll stop polluting before it’s too late.” Sorry, Calvin, but it IS too late. Too many people would rather ignore science rather than worry about future generations. The physics of greenhouse gases have been known for over a century. They are trapping heat in the atmosphere. Heat is fundamentally energy, and all that extra energy is affecting weather patterns and climate in ways that we have no frame of reference. If you think we can continue our addiction to fossily fuels, pumping carbon into the atmosphere unabated, all while clearing forests in the name of “prosperity,” don’t pretend you care one whit about the world your grandkids and great-grandkids are going to inherit.
Mitigating climate change will require sacrifice, and that’s an inconvienient truth. But try explaining that to someone who thinks that humans once coexisted with dinosaurs.
