    In the case of the land turtles/tortoises, the shell is actually the spine and rib cage, fused together. I’ve seen the skeleton. A turtle’s shell is covered with skin, just as the legs, head, and tail are. If you cut a turtle, you’re cutting skin, not keratin. They feel it.

    Technically, it’s not fresh spit, though. It is progressively dehydrated spit. :)

    Yes, honey contains enzymes added by the worker bee, so “bee spit” is definitely involved. But she holds the nectar (honey-to-be) in a special “honey crop”, not the stomach she uses to digest food.

    Honey is also a fine antibacterial substance. One of the proteins has been found to be effective against MRSA.
