If you need a credit card to rent a car, you can find one with good grace period and close it immediately afterwards. I had such a situation in Scotland, because Thrifty doesn’t accept debit cards unless issued by a UK bank. So, I had to order a credit card and close it immediately after I rented a car. Costed me about 5 USD, which is pretty OK in comparison with 400 USD for 2-week rent.
