   When European missionaries first became plentiful in the Southern Pacific, the Islanders referred to them as “long pigs”. You can read as much or as little into that as your political, social, religious, and/or ethnic bent allows.

   I wonder why burned human smells like bacon, because burned pig doesn’t.

   The Skull and Bones Society of Yale University was sued in 2011 for the return of Geronimo’s skull. Prescott S. Bush, prominent member of the Bush crime family, reportedly dug into the grave in 1911 and removed some items, including the skull.

   I grew up in rural Texas and Arkansas in the 40s and 50s. My Dad was a disbled WWII Vet. His government pension was 40 dollars a month. With 4 brothers and 2 sisters there weren’t many bought toys.

   I’m not jealous of you guys who had those things. I actually feel kind of sorry for you. We built forts. We dug caves. We made our toy guns out of sticks. I found a piece of pipe with and elbow attached. Finest gun I ever owned, it never failed me and got me out of a lot of predicaments with the bad guys.

   I knew where the cave where the panther that lived on the mountain had her kittens every 2 years.Our meadow was the only clearing for miles around, she would bring her kittens to play, while she laid under an oak and watched. Usually with me sitting and watching, also. I knew where the springs were that had the coldest water on a hot summer day.

   Dad taught me the safe way to build and fire a carbide cannon. They were made out of baking powder cans or old paint cans. Now he would be arrested for allowing his kids to possible get hurt. Some of my friends got burned, but they sure knew what to not do next time.

   I used to think the rich kids had all the nice stuff and us poor kids didn’t have anything. It took me many years to realise that that was just backwards.

   No Roger is not “exciting” enough. I have known several divorced women who, after a couple of the exciting guys, all wanted their first husbands back.

   St. Reagan’s colon exam was breathlessly reported by excited news bobbleheads for what seemed like forever.He was a media darling, as he knew how to play up to the media. They loved him, he had been, like, you know , umm a beutiful people honest-to-gawd movie star.

   Ok, what about the Land Rover’s condenser? Air conditioner condenser? Exactly what did he fix? And how is this relevent, curious, or even noteworthy? What is his title again, Automobile Association Patrolman? What exactly does he do? Can we call him Sir Spud?

   I once fixed a Ford with some bailing wire.

   Seriously, it seems as if the fact collectors and checkers are easily amazed and not very thorough. I have seen several things recently that a little research showed the event or situation to be something quite different to what was shown in the strip.

    When I was 10 years old I found a 1943 copper penny. I kept it in my collection until I went into the army in 1960. I really didn’t know what it was worth, just knew it was different from regular 1943 steel pennies. In rural Arkansas in the 40s and 50s, I had no knowledge of coin values and no way of finding out.

    While I was in the Army my brother spent my penny collection. All of them. He bought a bow and some arrows.I haven’t had the heart to collect coins since.
