I ended up with at least 6 pairs so I kept 2 and donated the rest. My hotel had collection buckets for Astronomers without Borders. Mine are all American Paper Optics so that is why they have the 3 years on them. It certainly wasn’t difficult to find glasses around here as long as you didn’t wait until the day of.
I was in Burlington Vermont where for once we did not have cloud cover for an astronomical event! It got dark but not night time dark but the street lights did come on. The sea gulls were still flying around. It wasn’t dark enough for stars to be seen but I did see Venus, Mercury and Jupiter. The horizon was all yellow and pink. It went so quick. It is amazing how little sun is needed to provide so much light.
One of our big supermarket chains carries them this time of year and makes a big deal of it. There isn’t a big Polish population in our area but might be in another area that they are based in.
And the tape recorder was very important for Lupin because he would record conversations that would be transcribed later for him because of his deafness.
