most people getting food stamps ARE working, large numbers are family members of military personnel, or are elderly or disabled. (disability is VERY hard to get).

Jesus encouraged everyone to help feed the poor, to share what they had. He did not encourage the wealthy to give themselves more money, nor to take money for work not performed (endless salary 3x the middle class rate for life?)

Jesus was a carpenter’s son, but the Bible also states that he began speaking and teaching philosophies very early. This was considered very important, and the early Jews tithed so that teachers could earn money for their family, be paid according to their service.

Since the minimum wage is so low, because the business model today is to make money no matter what and always keep growing, and payroll is the easiest to cut (very short sighted), people have to eat somehow, even though they may be working one or two jobs. Full time is 32 hrs a week, and many employers will not hire full time. 32 hrs times the minimum wage of $7.55? $241.61 a week. In NJ, the average one bedroom apt is $850 a month.

so, yeah, Congress and the Tea Party asking what would Jesus do and then cutting food stamps is irony, to say the least.
