Fair enough… Charley or Charlie is the nickname for Charles. Mister Charlie was used as a pejorative expression within the African American community to refer to a imperious white man or the man in charge.
It was not what I had in mind when I created the mane of the character. I was using it to honor a grade school friend.

Mr. C. has always been the character’s name. It’s a nickname… it was once called CHARLES, but since some people thought I was making a derogatory reference, I shortened it to “C” and think of him as C, for the Common guy.

I’m cautious to indulge in a debate or conversation on what appears to be a singular focus on looting.
I wish to think about the larger picture of how does the United States offer equal rights and dignity to all of its citizens, which has not been the cases since the beginning of the establishment of this country.
Opportunists will always seek to take advantage of every situation, no matter how noble the cause. I am aware of this because away from my drawing table, I operated a non-profit which gives away and repairs bike for the needy and under-employed and though everything we offer is free and given away, there are still those who have broken in to help themselves. We incur additional cost to keep going, but we recognize the greater good that is being done and continue to serve.
This may not make sense to some and perhaps even you, but I suppose a person must walk in the shoes and peer through the eyes of others to see a different perspective and broader vision.

Frankly, that requires a much longer discussion than can be attempted here. But simply said… decades of quiet protests and civil marches haven’t seem to work to make the significant changes for equal rights for all people. Apparently the looting, burning and vandalizing has your attention…. maybe changes can now begin.I’m sure this is debatable, but as I stated, it requires a much longer discussion away from this format.

It doesn’t appear to me for anyone to apologize. However, until a topic is placed on the table, it will never be talked about… apparently this appears to be the time for these two.

I never stopped being black and entertaining and if you’ve read the comic long enough, you’d be aware that this isn’t the first time I’ve engaged in topics concerning people of color and tackled them with grace… if this is difficult for the reader, then perhaps a dialogue is as necessary as the characters are begin to share. Just sayin’.

FYI, I never drew a comic where Herb gave his wife a vacuum as a gift.
