“Look, I don’t want to ban guns. That would be stupid. But the NRA stops common sense legislation, which would save lives, in the name of the 2nd Amendment.”

Oh, please… list some of this “common sense” legislation that you like.

“What were they “saved” from? Lions? Escaped tigers? Rampaging elephants? Not likely. Possibly, but not likely.

They were “saved” from someone with a gun. "

Or they were saved from someone with a knife or someone with 2-5 friends having the same ill intent or someone with a 100 lb weight advantage or someone on PCP.

You really don’t think about what you write before you grab your keyboard, do you?

“argument that the “Worst” proves we are better off fails when you compare the Total Casualties on any sort of list of shootings by Country”

(As I said earlier) No, it does not. The United States is the third most populous country on the planet, so comparing Total Casualties instead of Per Capita values is – to be polite – immensely shortsighted.

“You also deny that America has a gun problem because ‘other people do it to’.”

I don’t deny the problem, I just deny your assertion of the scope of the problem. Far more people are saved by guns than are killed by them. More than half of the people who are killed by guns do it to themselves, intentionally. As events in Canada have shown, those people commit suicide even when guns aren’t available.

As for the rest, gun violence is concentrated in certain regions of the country. That is not a gun problem, that is a cultural problem.

“People are being killed. Fact. We can’t fix the problem because of you. You are the problem.”

More people are being saved by guns; 119 for every death. Fact. We cannot fix the problem because people like you are incapable of accepting the root causes of the problem.

    You are the problem.

“We stand on the graves of other cultures and you make false comparisons.”

Ever heard of the aphorism, “Assertions that are offered without proof can be denied without proof”? I’m doing that.

“Those worst shootings in other nations were carried out by groups of men, not some whacko walking into a bar. They had REASONS other than to simply kill. Why did the guy in Uvalde kill? Because he felt like it.”

    You are wrong.

A listing of the 10 worst mass shootings with one shooter is summarized here: https://www.therichest.com/most-shocking/10-of-the-worst-mass-shootings-in-history/

The worst ten events, all with single shooters (except Columbine, with two), some with reasons that are known and some with no apparent reason; five (including the worst) happened outside the United States.

For the worst shootings in history (regardless of how many shooters), https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/the-deadliest-mass-shootings-in-history.html lists 51, with 18 occurring in the United States (none of them in the top 5).

“The US leads the world in gun homicide by 25%. You choose your numbers to fit your argument. You’re wrong.”

I’d like to see your source for that number. According to https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/gun-deaths-by-country , the United States trails 21 other countries in firearm-related deaths per capita.

“Your way of thinking is killing people.”

Your feelings, if turned into public policy, would be what kills people. The CDC has determined that there are 2.5 MILLION Defensive Gun Uses every year in the United States. Yep, that’s people with guns defending themselves, and others, from violent attacks. Every year.

For a 20+ year old strip, I wasn’t expecting a Schulz reference (major milestone birthday or not).

I wonder if this is adapted from another episode.

    “Other than mass shootings”

Of the 10 worst mass shootings in history, 5 (including the worst) happened in other countries. The total population of those countries is less than the United States, so we’re safer, per capita, than they are.

“Most American culture is appropriated, borrowed, from others, we so little of our own.”

Sure it is. We stole the technology to make televisions, automobiles and antibiotics. Everybody knows the Inca and the Aboriginal Australians beat us to the Moon.

It is you who are becoming too much work. She clearly said that five was too much work, so only some smaller number could be the right amount of work (and that could vary depending on how hot he was).
