   We’ve had a lot of problems with Cat images being used without permission (ie people putting images on products and selling them without having a license). We put backgrounds behind the artwork to deter that.

   We don’t produce the whole image sometimes because we’ve seen an increase of unauthorized uses of the images on unlicensed product. To post the whole image would just invite for it to be taken. (J.K. Kliban does not do the posting)

   Actually, this image was published in B. Kliban’s book Cat which was published before Art Spiegelmam began working on Maus.

   Yes, they knew each other. This image is from B. Kliban’s book Cat, which was published in 1977 before Art Spiegelman began working on Maus.
