    Your dr example is not relevant to what I said. His ability to do surgery is builf on layersxand layers of knowledge he doesn’t possess and most importantly doesn’t need to. He cannot make an xray machine or oxygen or even the overhead light. And he doesn’t need to calculate anything. He’s relying on tools and knowledge of those around him to supplement what he’s learned.

    The idea is that we allow the tools we make to abstract away a layer of knowledge because we have completely solved or understood the problematic that level . An engineer building a bridge needs to know how to do the complex math of calculating stress and force, you can bet he never once does division. A calculator does it. It is both faster and less error prone.Our knowledge stands on the shoulders of giants without having to master it all.
