I’ve been reading the funny pages since the day a four-year-old me picked up the newspaper and read Peanuts out loud to the astonishment of my mother who didn’t know I was already reading on my own.

Well, 2020 did give us something else to worry about: astronomers found a black hole a mere 1,000 light years away from Earth. It’s been nice knowing all of you.

From my brother-in-law’s point of view, this would not be funny. My wife’s family is from Puerto Rico, and they tend to have a lighter skin color. In 2001, my brother-in-law, who had just graduated college and had landed a good job, decided to let his naturally wavy hair grow long, and he grew a large beard. After 9/11, he was constantly harassed and threatened with violence by folks who thought he was from the Middle East. After a week of such treatment, he asked his mother to cut his hair, and he shaved off his beard. Now that he looked more like a Caucasian American, the harassment and threats stopped.

I don’t think either “miffed” or “peeved” is accurate. He is genuinely concerned, but more acutely than he usually is. He actually seems out of character.

Why is it that so many Catholics who run for office don’t truly practice their faith? For example, John Kerry and Joe Biden support abortion rights. As a practicing Catholic myself, I’m embarrassed when people like them or like Barr or like Kavanaugh talk about how much their Catholic faith has influenced their lifestyles and decisions. I also wonder how often they go to Confession.

Very clever use of a broom as a trident. I have to remember that.

I loved this story! This is one of the best comic strip serials I have ever read, and I have a library full of Flash Gordon, The Phantom, Buck Rogers, et al., and it ranks up there with the best of them. I also would love to add this to the collection. Perhaps, and this is a long shot, you could contact DC Comics. After all, this is a sequel of sorts to a Superman story, and he is mentioned in a headline so perhaps they would be open to gathering it into a single volume. If not, perhaps another small publisher would pick it up. Regardless, this was a truly memorable story, which I will definitely make a point of returning to in a few years. Thanks for the great work!

The book titles—what a great joke they are!
