But you can still make a black and white movie, a silent one even. Color and sound gave directors more options to explore their craft, making this a good change.

To keep the analogy going, this strip’s change would be like the movie Psycho being remade to consist of nothing but short disjointed stories about Hitchcock himself as he filmed the movie. Not all changes are good.

Only issue with that is, since its creation, this strip’s format has been to have an A Plot with optional B and C Plots that began and ended with a high school sports season. During the particular season there was a tight focus. Our esteemed writer, who claims to love this strip, loves it so much he threw out that format.

Perhaps then he should read it more carefully and use it as a model for plotting a coherent storyline.

Dang. Forgot closing quote marks after the word ‘cleverness’ above.

I noticed that too! (Which makes the explanation even worse…..)

Actually, you are FAKE NEWS. You have deliberately failed to explain the context of your comment. The conversation was about why sports have all but disappeared from this strip. (“While the former mainstay of the strip, sports, are now just an afterthought.”) You replied, “The strip is titled GIL THORP not SPORTS. It’s like saying “why [sic] isn’t there more soccer in TED LASSO?”” The clear implication is that you consider this strip a soap opera about the life of GT and not a sports strip.

Even more, you wrote (in response to me) “I understand if this isn’t the same strip you have been reading before 2022.” Again the clear implication is that this strip is no longer about sports, as it was prior to 2022. While you never explicitly said “not about sports”, your comments lead anyone with reading comprehension skills to conclude that you do not consider sports to be an integral part of the strip.

    1. But this just leads to the question, “Was this move important in any way and at any point of the story?” 2 and 4. As the saying goes, "Communicating badly and acting smug when misunderstood is not cleverness. I also suggest you reread my post on 3/2/24. You know, the one that addresses you and starts with “I am asking this in all sincerity because I don’t understand…” All I got from that was a non-answer platitude. 3. Again, there is supposed to be a soft reboot every time a new high school sports season starts. Given the fact that the chapters are not shorter, it still isn’t clear why chapter titles are used instead.

?? Explain it to me, for as I said above, I am but a simple man. There is a secondary source readers need to subscribe to in order for this strip to make sense? Is that not a sign of p-ss poor writing? Why would the answers be a secret? Am I missing something? Apparently this strip is now a mystery rivaling that of a Christie novel.

Forgive me, I am but a simple man and I need some help. November 28 began Chapter 4 “The Misdirect”. (Announced at the end of Nov. 27.) Now that Chapter 5 is beginning, I (painfully) flipped through all the strips between then and now and I was wondering if someone could answer some questions:

    1. What was the misdirect? “THE” is a definite article, so what activity, event, etc constitutes “the” misdirect? Or did the writer [cough, cough] mean “the misdirect” as a concept that connects the numerous [eye roll] plot lines together? If the latter, then again, what activities, events, etc constitutes those misdirects?

    2. In light of Question 1, why was “The Misdirect” even the title of the chapter anyway if the reason for the title isn’t obvious?

    3. Why does this comic strip even have chapters in the first place? There are natural breaks in the narrative flow, commonly called “high school sports seasons”. Why are these artificial chapters even being used?

    4. Since July 2022, can anyone tell me how the Milford sports teams actually finished when the season was over? Since this is one of the points of the strip, (Henry, are you paying attention? Suggestion: Read that last part over and over until it sinks in.) it would be nice to know how the teams did. Or do I need to just assume they finished second in the Valley?

    Thanks!

Excellent summation of the situation. Notice at no point did he take me up on my suggestion for an honest discussion as to why these changes were made. That in itself allows one to draw a conclusion.
